Meet the Zurich Team: Primrose Madziva

Primrose Madziva works as an SME underwriter assisting brokers with queries, assessing risk and liaising with our claims and distribution teams. Primrose describes her career journey to becoming an underwriter and her insights into surviving and thriving during the June 30 renewal season.

How did you get into the insurance industry?

I come from a family involved in the insurance industry in my home country, so when the opportunity presented, it was a natural, exciting and encouraged career path for me. It was a great avenue to put some well-earned skills, empathy and humanity to good use.

What do you enjoy about being an SME Underwriter?

I come from a service background in hospitality and aged care. Delivering the optimal experience is a skill that I acquired in previous roles and I find it essential as an underwriter. Service delivery, technical investigation and problem solving are the aspects that make-up my day as an SME underwriter.

What’s the most challenging thing about the June 30 Renewal season?

Breakneck speed! We have to balance the turnaround time and a quality product. We don’t want our valued brokers to miss out on any important aspect of a renewal. I personally want the best outcome for our insured clients as well as our broker partners.

What are some words of advice for brokers through this busy time?

Make the most of our electronic platforms. We will always have time to respond to emails and phone calls, however our online quoting platform Z.stream is the best tool to communicate and get the best outcome.  Don’t forget to switch off after work and get a well-deserved break after a long day!
