Zurich announces new Head of Motor & Marine underwriting


Zurich Australian Insurance Limited (Zurich) has today announced that Matthew O’Sullivan will take on the new role of Head of Motor & Marine, Australia & New Zealand.

Mr O’Sullivan has been Zurich’s Head of Marine, Australia & New Zealand, and Zurich’s Asia Pacific Marine lead since April 2017. He has been Zurich’s acting Head of Motor since April 2019.

Zurich has invested heavily in developing a holistic and end-to-end commercial motor proposition, which a range of benefits for brokers and customers including:

  • Z Track - a reporting tool which allows fleet operators to see their claims progress and history and generate benchmarking reports to target areas for risk reduction
  • Priority Repairs Service – a world-class repair solution for customers’ damaged motor vehicles and third party vehicle repairs, with a target average turnaround time of five days
  • All supported by Zurich’s award-winning claims service, market-leading risk engineering team, and technical underwriting excellence

An experienced leader in the industry with nearly three decades’ underwriting experience, Mr O’Sullivan joined Zurich in 2014 as Head of Marine, Property & Engineering lines. Prior to joining Zurich he held senior underwriting and account management roles with Aon Benfield and Munich Re. He has an MBA from Macquarie University and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Sydney.
